Common Oceans Tuna Fisheries Project

The Common Oceans Tuna Fisheries Project is an initiative funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The project is dedicated to promoting responsible and sustainable tuna fishing practices in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ), otherwise known as the high seas. The goal is to safeguard marine biodiversity and ensure the long-term health of our oceans, all while adapting to the challenges of a rapidly changing climate.

Led by The Ocean Foundation, the HarvestStrategies.org part of the project seeks to foster sustainable management practices by advancing the development, adoption, and implementation of harvest strategies, also known as management procedures, driving forward-thinking solutions to global challenges in international tuna fisheries. This page features the events and communications materials developed through the project to demystify and clarify the harvest strategy approach.
