2022 has been a landmark year for international tuna fisheries conservation.

Gathered today in Vale do Lobo, Portugal, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) adopted a comprehensive management procedure (MP) for Atlantic bluefin tuna, its most iconic species.

Species such as skipjack, yellowfin and albacore tuna make up staple products on shelves in markets across the globe. Protecting these stocks and ensuring a stability and predictability of supply is not only good for the planet but also the bottom line.

2 November 2022, Washington/Rome – The Ocean Foundation (TOF) and UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have launched a new website in support of sustainable fisheries management around the world. HarvestStrategies.org provides a clearinghouse of the latest information on the development and implementation of harvest strategies, also known as management procedures.
